We pull a corner where we can, check flatness with a straightedge, take moisture readings, and identify what is actually under the existing floor.

Prep and repair
Old flooring removed, squeaks addressed at the source, low spots filled or the subfloor levelled, and any soft or water-damaged sheathing replaced.

Acclimatise and lay out
Material acclimatised in the room it is going into, then a dry layout to set direction, plank distribution and where the cut rows land.

Install and finish
Floor installed with correct expansion gaps, transitions and thresholds set, trim and quarter round fitted, and the site vacuumed before we leave.

Usually subfloor movement against a joist or a fastener, not the flooring itself. During removal we can see exactly where it is coming from and fix it at the source — screwing the subfloor down properly, adding blocking, or sistering a joist. Covering a creak with new flooring does not remove it.
Yes. The seasonal humidity swing here is significant, and wood and engineered products move with it. We let material sit in the room it is going into for the manufacturer specified period before installing, and we set expansion gaps for the season we are installing in. Skipping this is how you get gapping in February or buckling in August.
