Anant Builders is a residential construction and renovation contractor based in Halifax. We take on full renovations and the individual trades behind them — 12 services in total, seven of which are crews we run ourselves.
Most people who call us have had a bad experience with a contractor, or have heard enough stories to be nervous. The specific fears are consistent: someone who stops answering the phone, a budget that creeps without explanation, and a kitchen out of commission for a season. Those are reasonable fears, and the answer to all three is process rather than promises.
So that is what this business is organised around. A written scope. A quote broken out line by line. Change orders in writing before work happens. One point of contact who knows the state of your job. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is the difference between a renovation that goes well and one you tell people about for years.

We quote what we can see
A line-item quote against a written scope. If something is unknown until a wall is open, it is named as unknown rather than buried in a round number.

We write changes down
Anything we uncover gets photographed, priced and signed before we act on it. That is the only thing that reliably keeps a renovation budget from drifting.

We finish a stage before starting another
Half-finished rooms across a whole house is how a two-month job becomes a year. We sequence properly and stay on site until a stage is done.

We leave it clean
Routes covered, dust controlled, site swept at the end of the day. In a house people are living in, that is part of the work, not a favour.

Say the hard thing early
If a floor is not level, if the budget will not cover the scope, if the honest answer is that you should wait until spring — you hear it at the quote, not at the invoice.
Do the invisible parts properly
Waterproofing, flashing, footing depth, fastener choice. Nobody sees any of it. All of it decides whether you are doing this again in eight years.
One person owns the job
You should never have to explain your project twice, or work out which trade you are waiting on. That is our problem to hold, not yours.
