The layer everyone actually touches.
Finish carpentry is the part of a renovation you interact with physically. You touch the door handles, you run a hand along the newel post, you see the casing at eye level every time you walk down the hall. It is a small share of the budget and a large share of whether the finished job feels well made, which is why it is a poor place to save money.
Good trim work is mostly about joints and consistency: mitres that stay closed through a heating season, reveals that are the same at every casing, scribes that follow a wall that is not straight rather than fighting it. In older homes nothing is square, and the skill is making trim look right against out-of-square conditions instead of installing it perfectly and letting the gaps show.
We hang doors, run baseboard, casing and crown, build stairs and railings, and make built-ins, closets and shelving. In a heritage or century home we can match existing profiles — sometimes with stock, sometimes with a custom knife — so an addition or a repair reads as part of the house rather than as the year it was done.

Measure and specify
We walk the rooms, agree profiles and reveals, check what is existing that we need to match, and measure for a materials order rather than guessing.

Prepare openings
Openings checked for square and plumb, jambs shimmed true, and floors checked for level so a run of baseboard does not reveal a slope.
- 03
Install
Doors hung and adjusted, trim cut and fitted with joints tight, scribes cut to the wall where the wall is not straight, and fasteners set for filling.
- 04
Fill, sand and hand over
Nail holes filled, joints sanded, caulk only where caulk belongs, then a walk-through with you looking specifically at the details.

Usually yes. Some older profiles are still available as stock, others we can approximate closely, and for a full room or an addition it is sometimes worth having a knife ground to reproduce the original exactly. We will show you the options with the real cost difference rather than defaulting to whatever is on the shelf.
Wood moves as indoor humidity drops through the heating season. Some movement is unavoidable, but joints that open badly usually were not glued, were fastened without allowing for movement, or the material went in wet. Acclimatising material and gluing mitres rather than relying on filler is most of the fix.
Occasionally, but more often it is the opening — a jamb that is out of plumb, a header that has deflected, or a floor that has settled. We check the opening before adjusting the door, because planing a door to fit a crooked frame just hides the real problem for a year.
It is driven by linear footage of trim, the number of doors and openings, profile complexity and material, whether stairs or built-ins are in scope, and how far out of square the existing conditions are — scribing takes real time. We quote by room and by element so you can scale it up or down where it matters most to you.
