Acclimatising material and gluing mitres rather than relying on filler is most of the fix.
Occasionally, but more often it is the opening — a jamb that is out of plumb, a header that has deflected, or a floor that has settled. We check the opening before adjusting the door, because planing a door to fit a crooked frame just hides the real problem for a year.
