Nearly every flooring complaint traces back to the substrate. Boards that creak, click joints that separate, planks that telegraph a hump in the middle of a hallway — none of that is the flooring failing, it is the floor underneath being out of tolerance and the installer covering it anyway. We check the subfloor for flatness and moisture first, and we tell you what it needs before we quote the finish.

Older housing stock across Nova Scotia comes with plank subfloors, previous layers of everything, and slopes that developed over a century. Newer builds have their own issue: a slab or subfloor that is flat enough for the builder but not flat enough for a wide-plank product. Either way the fix is the same — level it, or choose a flooring that tolerates what is there. Both are legitimate; pretending the problem is not there is not.

We install engineered hardwood, laminate and vinyl plank, and we care about the details that make a floor feel finished: expansion gaps that are actually correct for the product and the room size, transitions at doorways that sit flat, and undercut door casings rather than scribed cuts around them. In a coastal climate with real seasonal humidity swing, letting flooring acclimatise before installation is not optional, and we build that time into the schedule.
